The Finnish hospitality magazine Vitriini reports on the use of CCM-manufactured nano coatings and the Biosativa cleaner in restaurants in Oulu, Finland. In the hectic day-to-day business of the hospitality industry, cleanliness is essential — but maintaining it consumes a significant amount of valuable working hours. Restaurateur Sari-Helena Forsman from Oulu decided to challenge traditional cleaning methods. Nano coatings applied two years ago have since proven that investing in invisible surface protection technology pays off.
As Managing Director of Buca-Rest Oy, Forsman operates two of Oulu’s best-known restaurants, each with different challenges. In the comfort dining restaurant Parinu, grease and heavy customer traffic put constant stress on surfaces, while in the casual dining restaurant Puistola, the atmosphere must remain flawless at all times. Both restaurants share one common factor: considerable time and effort are invested in cleaning to maintain quality standards.
“We are constantly looking for solutions that make everyday work easier for our staff. We decided to test Duck’s Back nano coatings with an open mind. We wanted to see whether cleaning could genuinely become more efficient,” explains Forsman.
Two Years of Heavy Use: The Promise Held True
Duck’s Back treated the restaurant surfaces two years ago. The nano coating creates a microscopic, invisible layer that repels water, grease, and dirt. According to Forsman, the results speak for themselves. Even after years of heavy use, the surfaces still perform exactly as promised.
“The difference compared to before is remarkable. Dirt no longer penetrates the pores of the materials but instead remains floating on the surface, where it can be wiped away quickly without scrubbing.”
The benefits are most visible in the kitchens. Stainless steel is highly susceptible to fingerprints and grease, but thanks to the coating, surfaces remain shiny with only a fraction of the previous cleaning effort. This frees up valuable time for kitchen professionals to focus on food preparation.
A Valuable Interior Leaves No Room for Mistakes
Restaurant Puistola is located in a historic Art Nouveau building more than one hundred years old, where standards are exceptionally high. The elegant surroundings require furniture and surfaces to remain perfectly maintained. A worn or stained table would disrupt the historical aesthetic immediately.
Duck’s Back nano coating acts as a protective shield. For example, spilled red wine no longer penetrates wood or stone surfaces but beads up on top, allowing easy removal. This significantly extends the lifespan of furniture and preserves the restaurant’s refined appearance.
“It is important to us that Puistola always looks immaculate. Clean surfaces are part of the quality promise we give our customers from the moment they walk through the door. It makes economic sense to protect investments rather than replacing furniture prematurely due to wear and tear,” says Forsman.
A New Step: Biodegradable Deep Cleaning
Following the positive experiences, the cooperation expanded further. Forsman’s restaurants have now also introduced Biosativa, the next-generation cleaning product distributed by Duck’s Back.
Although nano-coated surfaces can often be cleaned using only water, restaurant environments occasionally require cleaning agents to remove grease. Conventional strong chemicals, however, can pose risks to users, coatings, and the environment.
Biosativa is fully biodegradable and non-toxic while still delivering industrial-level cleaning performance. Its surfactant technology breaks down grease and dirt into biodegradable components.

Looking Toward the Future
Together with the Sulkala restaurant family, the Forsmans are preparing for the opening of the future Tarkastamo event center. As floor space and customer volumes increase, cleaning efficiency will translate into even greater economic benefits.
Forsman’s message to members of the Finnish Hospitality Association MaRa is clear: cleaning is not merely a mandatory expense. With the right choices, it becomes an investment that improves both employee satisfaction and business performance.
“Nano coatings and biological cleaning products represent modern technology today. They make everyday work easier and protect surfaces at the same time,” Forsman concludes.
