November 30, 2024Liquid Glass Coatings: PFAS-free and yet oil-repellent?
Our customers are increasingly concerned about PFAS-free coatings. Our statement applies to our high-performance sealants 7601 (glass) and 7656 (plastic, metal, aluminium), which are both water and oil repellent:
We hereby confirm that our Liquid Glass Coatings 7601 & 7656 are free from PFOS and PFOA. This coating fulfils the current European Regulation (EU) 2024/2462, which prescribes limit values of less than 25 ppb for PFHxA and less than 1000 ppb for the total fluorine content.
Coating 7656 does not contain any PFCs or PFOA. Nevertheless, it is not classified as ‘C Zero’ (=PFAS-free) as it contains small traces of fluorinated components, which are only present in a few parts per billion (ppb). These components are necessary to ensure important chemical bonding properties and to achieve the desired oil-repellent effect - a decisive advantage for many of our customers. However, some companies require coatings with ‘zero PFAS’ that are nevertheless oil-repellent. Until now, this was virtually impossible to realise technically. CCM has solved this contradiction and presents a universal solution for glass, metal, stainless steel and plastic with the 7675 sealant. It is completely PFAS-free and achieves oil repellency through an alternative, innovative approach. As a technology leader in this field, we are proud to be able to offer pioneering solutions.
